“Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing. Then they said among the nations, ‘The LORD has done great things for them.’ The LORD has done great things for us, and we are glad.”

Psalm 30:11–12 (NKJV)
“You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, to the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent.”

Isaiah 51:11 (NKJV)
“So the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with singing, with everlasting joy on their heads. They shall obtain joy and gladness; sorrow and sighing shall flee away.”

One of the greatest expressions of God’s faithfulness is His ability to change the story of a person. There are seasons when circumstances may cause tears, questions, and waiting, but those seasons do not have to become the permanent description of our lives. God is able to bring such a turnaround that the same mouth that once cried becomes filled with laughter and singing.

This was the experience of Israel in Psalm 126. Their situation changed so dramatically that they said, “We were like those who dream.” What God did appeared almost too wonderful to believe. Their captivity became restoration, their tears became laughter, and their waiting became celebration.

Notice also that their testimony became visible to others. The nations around them said, “The LORD has done great things for them.” There are things God does in our lives that become undeniable evidence of His goodness. You do not have to explain everything—the testimony speaks for itself.

The shout of joy is therefore more than excitement; it is a response to recognizing what God has done. When you remember where He brought you from, the battles He fought for you, the doors He opened, the prayers He answered, and the ways He preserved you, thanksgiving naturally rises from your heart.

David experienced this when he declared, “You have turned for me my mourning into dancing.” Notice the language: You have turned. Something has changed. The mourning did not continue forever. God stepped into the situation and changed its outcome.

There are moments when we must stop looking only at what remains to be done and recognize what God has already done. Constantly focusing on unfinished expectations can cause us to overlook completed testimonies. Gratitude helps us recognize the fingerprints of God throughout our journey.

This is why the sound of our lives has changed. What once produced tears has become a testimony. What once produced questions has become a reason for thanksgiving. What looked like a season of waiting is now evidence of God’s faithfulness.

Isaiah 51:11 says, “They shall obtain joy and gladness; sorrow and sighing shall flee away.” God does not intend sorrow to have the final word over His people. There is a place where sorrow gives way to gladness, mourning gives way to dancing, and prayer gives way to praise.

So when God gives you a reason to rejoice, do not remain silent. Celebrate His goodness. Tell of His faithfulness. Let your home hear thanksgiving. Let your family hear praise. Let others know that the Lord has been good to you.

The Lord has done great things for me, and I am glad. My mouth is filled with laughter, my tongue with praise, and my life with testimonies. I HAVE THE SHOUT OF JOY!

DAILY APPLICATION

Take a few moments today and deliberately look back at your journey. Identify specific prayers God has answered, battles He has brought you through, and blessings He has given you. Thank Him intentionally. Do not allow what you are still expecting to make you forget what God has already done.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

Father, thank You for the great things You have done for me. Thank You for every answered prayer, every victory, every provision, every restoration, and every testimony. You have turned my mourning into dancing and filled my mouth with thanksgiving. May I never become so focused on what I am expecting that I forget what You have already done. Let the sound of joy, praise, and thanksgiving continually be heard in my life and my home. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

I HAVE THE SHOUT OF JOY! The Lord has done great things for me, and I am glad. My mourning has become dancing, my tears have become testimonies, and my waiting has produced rejoicing. My mouth is filled with laughter and my tongue with praise. Sorrow and sighing have given way to joy and gladness. The sound of my life has changed—the shout of joy is my experience!
