The Price for Increase (Humility)

“Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.” James 4:10 (KJV)

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.” 1 Peter 5:6 (NIV)

True promotion and spiritual growth come through humility. Humility is the posture that invites God’s presence and blessing. Humility is not thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less (C.S. Lewis). ” We live in a world that often celebrates pride, self-promotion, and personal achievement. But the Kingdom of God operates on a different principle—one that turns the values of the world upside down. In God’s economy, the way up is down. The secret to true promotion, lasting success, and spiritual growth is humility. Humility is not weakness; it’s strength under control. It is an honest view of ourselves in light of God’s greatness. Philippians 2:3 – “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” True humility acknowledges our dependence on God and our need for His grace daily. Jesus is ultimate model of humility, the Bible says in Philippians 2:5-9 – Jesus humbled Himself, taking the form of a servant, and was later exalted above all. Because He humbled Himself, God gave Him the name above every name. Promotion comes after the posture of submission. Jesus didn’t seek glory but received it because He humbled Himself first.

By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honour, and life.” Proverbs 22:4(NIV).

God opposes the proud but lifts the humble. James 4:6 – “God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Pride repels God’s presence; humility attracts His favor. Consider Lucifer vs. Jesus: One sought to exalt himself and was cast down; the other humbled Himself and was exalted above all (Philippians 2:8–9). If you want God to fight for you, walk humbly. If you walk in pride, you’re on your own. Pride disconnects us from God’s flow of grace and provision. Humility will always lead to Increase. Joseph moved from the pit to the palace. He stayed humble through betrayal, slavery, and prison—and God elevated him. David was a shepherd boy who honored God even in obscurity and God lifted him to become king.

“For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” Matthew 23:12(NIV)

To experience increase God’s way, you must; 1. serve quietly without seeking recognition. 2. Submit to God’s timing and process. 3. Acknowledge your dependence on God. 4. Be teachable and willing to receive correction. 5. Depend on God through prayer and obedience. 6. Celebrate others’ successes without jealousy. Humility attracts God’s blessings, opens doors no man can shut, and positions you for supernatural increase. You don’t have to push your way to the top. Let God do the lifting. Stay low so God can raise you high. Never allow pride, self-sufficiency and comparison to take root in your life. Ask the Lord for a heart that seeks God’s glory above personal gain. Humility is not thinking less of yourself—it’s thinking of yourself less. When you lower yourself before God, He will raise you in due season. Your increase is on the other side of your humility.

Prayer of the Day: Father in the name of Jesus, I ask that you teach me to walk in humility. Help me to trust in Your timing and promotion. I lay down my pride and ambitions so that You can lift me according to Your will.” Amen.
