The Price for Increase (Faithful Mentorship)

He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will be destroyed. Proverbs 13:20(NKJV)

We live in a culture that values independence, but God’s kingdom thrives through impartation, relationship, and mentorship. Growth and increase in the life of a believer are often tied to the people God places in our path to guide, correct, and empower us. God often brings increase not through isolation, but through relationships. Mentorship is a kingdom principle. God uses people to prepare people. There is power in mentorship. “Every Elisha needs an Elijah, and every Timothy needs a Paul.” In the book of 2 Kings 2:1-15, Elisha followed Elijah faithfully learning, observing, and serving and at the moment of transition, he received a double portion of Elijah’s spirit. In Exodus 18:13–24, Jethro gave Moses wisdom on leadership and delegation and on following that instruction, Moses experienced increased effectiveness and sustainability in ministry. In 2 Timothy 2:2, Paul mentored Timothy, teaching him doctrine, conduct, and endurance and Timothy went on to become a leader of the early church. Jesus mentored 12 disciples who went on to change the world. Faithful mentorship leads to multiplied anointing and authority. And what you submit to, you will always receive from.

There are many blessings that comes from mentorship. With mentorship, you have quick access to wisdom without wasting time; Mentors allow you to stand on their shoulders rather than repeat their mistakes. Mentorship gives you accelerated growth; what took your mentor 10 years may take you 2, because of impartation and guidance. Mentorship provides covering and accountability; Mentors provide protection, correction, and spiritual oversight. With mentorship, anointings, spiritual gifts and mantles are transferred through proximity and service. Mentorship increases greater capacity. Elisha didn’t receive more by staying alone — he received increase by serving and staying close. The mantle wasn’t dropped randomly; it was passed on to the one who followed faithfully. Who you walk with determines what you walk into. Mentorship transfers wisdom, not Just power. Proverbs 13:20 – “Walk with the wise and become wise…” Mentorship brings access to experience without paying the same price. Elijah taught Elisha how to hear God’s voice, confront kings, and operate in power. Seek a mentor not just for blessings, but for sharpening.

“And if you have not been faithful in that which is another man’s, who shall give you that which is your own?” Luke 16:12(NKJV)

Mentorship positions you for increase. Serving under someone else’s vision often prepares you for your own. Faithfulness in mentorship brings promotion, expansion, and elevation. Elisha performed twice as many miracles as Elijah – not because he was greater, but because he was mentored well. You cannot increase in isolation — God uses relationships to elevate and accelerate people. Mentorship is not about dependency, but about alignment, preparation, and activation. There is no increase without connection. God never designed us to grow alone. Every season of increase is connected to a voice — a mentor, a father, a leader. Don’t pray for increase and ignore the mentor God has placed in your life.

Here are a few steps on how to engage in mentorship. 1. Be teachable and humble; You must submit before you can receive. Elisha poured water on Elijah’s hands before he received his mantle (2 Kings 3:11). 2. Pursue and serve faithfully; Elisha followed Elijah from Gilgal to Jordan, refusing to leave. 3. Ask Boldly; “Let a double portion of your spirit be upon me” – 2 Kings 2:9. 4. Honor your mentor; Honor opens the door to impartation. Dishonor shuts it.

Here is our call to action. Who are you submitted to? Who is pouring into you? Whose hands are you washing? Find a mentor: Spiritually, professionally, and personally. Be a mentor: Who are you investing in? Increase flows through generational transfer. Stay teachable: The anointing flows where there is humility. Seek God for divine mentorship relationships and be willing to be mentored — because your increase is tied to it.

Prayer of the Day: Father in the name of Jesus, I ask that you order my steps into the paths of those you have designed to bring increase into my live. I receive a humble and teachable spirit to apply all I am learning. Amen
