“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7(NIV)
The world is anxious and overwhelmed. We are living in an age where fear is a dominant force — fear of failure, rejection, war, disease, financial collapse and persecution. And yet, in the midst of all this, God speaks clearly: “You do not have the spirit of fear. I’ve given you the Spirit of power, love, and a sound mind.” A little boy was afraid of going down into the dark basement. His mother said, “Don’t be afraid, Jesus is with you!” So, he opened the door, peered into the darkness, and said, “Jesus, if you’re down there, could you bring me a can of soup?” Even when we know the truth intellectually, fear can feel overwhelming emotionally. That’s why we need more than motivational quotes — we need the Spirit of God to impart real courage.
Courage is not the absence of fear — it’s the resolve to obey God and trust Him in spite of fear. Courage is born in the presence of God and sustained by the power of the Spirit. 2 Timothy 1:7 lays it out clearly — God gives us: A. Power (Greek: Dunamis). Not just strength, but explosive, divine power. The power to heal, speak, endure, and overcome. B. Love (Agape). Courage is not just about standing firm, but about loving sacrificially. Love casts out fear (1 John 4:18). C. A Sound Mind (Sōphronismos). Self-control, discipline, clarity of thought. Courage includes mental strength to make wise, godly decisions under pressure.
Moses stuttered before Pharaoh, but God still used him to confront the most powerful empire in the world. In Daniel chapter 3, Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego said: “We know our God is able to deliver us, but even if He doesn’t, we will not bow. “What was the Result? God walked with them in the fire. What stops courage? A. Fear of people “The fear of man brings a snare.” (Proverbs 29:25). B. Self-doubt. Moses said, “I can’t speak.” Gideon said, “I’m the least.” But God always responds, “I will be with you.”. C. Past failure. Peter denied Jesus three times — but after the Spirit came, he preached with boldness (Acts 2).
To walk in the spirit of courage. 1. Spend time in prayer and worship. The more you know Him, the less you fear people or situations. 2. Obey in Small Things. Courage grows with use. If you say “yes” to God in the small moments, you’ll be ready when the big tests come. 3. Speak the Word Over Yourself. Declare scriptures over fear: “The Lord is my light and my salvation — whom shall I fear?” (Psalm 27:1). “Greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world.” (1 John 4:4). 4. Lean on the Holy Spirit. Courage doesn’t come from personality — it comes from presence. Acts 4:31 — “They were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.
Prayer of the Day: Father in the name of Jesus, “I thank You that You have not left us to face life alone. You have given me Your Spirit — the Spirit of courage. I repent for letting fear control me, and today, I receive boldness, power, and love. Use me to speak Your truth, live Your will, and bring light into the darkness. Amen.”
