Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us[a] from Your Majesty’s hand. 18 But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” Daniel 3:16–18(NIV)
Have you ever faced a moment when everything in you wanted to run—but something inside said, “Stand”? Courage isn’t the absence of fear. Courage is standing firm in spite of fear. This Word is for the believer who finds themselves surrounded by doubt, fear, compromise, A uncertainty. When others shrink back, God is looking for someone who will stand.
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bow to the idol, even under the threat of death. Courage stands in the face of culture. Courage doesn’t compromise to fit in. Courage says, “Even if God doesn’t deliver me the way I want—He’s still worthy. And the satraps, administrators, governors, and the king’s counselors gathered together, and they saw these men on whose bodies the fire had no power; the hair of their head was not singed nor were their garments affected, and the smell of fire was not on them. Daniel 3:27(NKJV). In a world of moral compromise, God is calling the Church to stand for truth in love—even when it’s not popular, safe, or easy. What are you bowing to that God is asking you to stand against?
“Be strong and courageous, for you shall cause this people to inherit the land that I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous… Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:6-9 (ESV)
Courage Is Commanded, Not Optional “Be strong and courageous…” (v. 6). God doesn’t suggest courage—He commands it. Joshua was stepping into Moses’ shoes—can you imagine the pressure? It wasn’t about Joshua’s strength, but God’s presence and promise. Stop waiting to “feel brave.” Start obeying even when you’re afraid. Faith is obedience in the face of fear.
Courage Is Rooted in God’s Promises “…for you shall cause this people to inherit the land that I swore…” (v. 6). God had already promised the land. Joshua just needed to walk in it. Courage doesn’t come from personality—it comes from perspective. When you know what God has promised, you can stand when others run. What promises are you standing on? If your courage is rooted in public opinion, circumstances, or comfort—it will collapse.
Prayer of the Day: Father in the name of Jesus, today I choose to live by courage, not comfort. Help me obey before I understand. Remind me that You’re with me in the battle, and You go before me. Let my life be marked by courage that comes from knowing You.” Amen
