How to Receive the Peace of God (Stop Feeding Anxiety)

“Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life…26. Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? MATTHEW 6:26-27(NIV)

The first step toward receiving God’s peace is refusing to dwell in worry. That doesn’t mean you deny your problems—it means you refuse to let them rule your heart. You can’t receive peace while feeding fear. We live in a world that thrives on anxiety. From the news headlines to social media feeds, we are constantly bombarded with reasons to worry—about our health, our finances, our children, our future. But Jesus offers us a different way. Not just advice, but a new way of living—free from the chokehold of anxiety. We often try to control things we were never meant to control. Anxiety comes when we try to carry burdens that belong to God.

“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? MATTHEW 6:28-30(NIV)”

Jesus begins by telling us not to worry—but He doesn’t stop there. He goes on to unpack why worry is not just unhelpful, but unnecessary for a child of God. Stop feeding what starves your soul. Jesus uses the birds and flowers to make a powerful point. They don’t stress, but they’re cared for. You are worth far more. We feed anxiety when we: 1. Constantly rehearse worst-case scenarios. 2. When we are obsessing over things we cannot control. 3. When we fill our minds with fearful news, toxic conversations, or endless comparison.

You see, anxiety often grows from uncertainty—about provision, protection, and purpose. But Jesus reminds us: God already knows what we need. Worry is not a fruit of the Spirit—faith is. Where does your anxiety come from? Is it rooted in control, comparison, or fear of the future? You must recognize the source of anxiety. What you feed will grow. If you feed your fears, they will dominate your life. But if you feed your faith, anxiety begins to starve. You see, every time we replay our fears without praying, we give them more power. “Worry is like a rocking chair: it gives you something to do but gets you nowhere.” – Erma Bombeck. Starve anxiety by feeding Faith

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33(NIV)

Here’s the key: we don’t stop feeding anxiety by trying harder—we stop by shifting our appetite. Feed your soul with God’s promises. Fill your mind with Scripture instead of speculation. Spend time in prayer, not just venting your fears but listening for God’s voice. Instead of checking your phone first in the morning, check in with God. Start your day feeding faith, not fear. Live one day at a time

“Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself…” Matthew 6:34(NIV)

Anxiety often comes from trying to live tomorrow today. God gives grace for today, not for imaginary tomorrows. Lamentations 3:23: “His mercies are new every morning…” God gives you daily bread, not weekly or monthly anxiety rations. You don’t defeat anxiety by ignoring it—you overcome it by replacing it. Replace fear with faith. Replace control with trust. Replace worry with worship.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God… Philippians 4:6-7(NIV)

Call to Action: This week, identify one way you’ve been feeding your anxiety—and replace it with something that feeds your faith. Maybe it’s turning off the news and turning on worship. Maybe it’s replacing doomscrolling with reading Psalms. Let faith grow louder than fear.

Prayer of the Day: Father in the name of Jesus, I shutdown every door in my mind the leads to fear and anxiety. I refuse to be anxious and I trust in your provisions, protections and guidance. Thank you, Lord, for you are my helper and you will not leave me nor forsake me. I am always victorious. Amen
