But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” JAMES 1:22(NIV)
Many Christians are spiritually bloated with spiritual information but starving for transformation. “To know the right thing and not do it is not ignorance—it is rebellion. Many Christians today are educated far beyond their level of obedience. “Hearing the Word is not enough. You must obey it.” There are 3 kinds of hearers. The Casual Listener: those who Hears the Word and forgets what they have heard. They Engages the Bible like background music. The Critical Listener: those who analyzes the Word, but do not apply what they have heard. The Committed Listener: Those who looks into the Word like a mirror and allow the Word to confront, correct, and change their lives.
Apostle James is pleading with us: Don’t just admire the sermon. Don’t just agree with it. Do something with it because “Obedience is the organ of spiritual growth.” The Word shows us our flaws, blind spots, spiritual messes. Are you letting the Word confront the real you? The hearer is those who only forgets what they saw. They get convicted in the moment but walk away unchanged. Conviction that doesn’t lead to action becomes spiritual callousness. God doesn’t bless the hearer. He doesn’t bless the thinker. He blesses the doer. Obedience is the Key to Answered prayer. Obedience is the Key to Greater intimacy. Obedience is the Key to Spiritual authority. Obedience is the Key to Blessing. Your next breakthrough may be one step of obedience away. God is speaking — but are you obeying? What did God tell you to do that you haven’t done yet? What conviction have you ignored? Today when you hear His Voice harden not your heart.
Prayer of the Day: Father in the name of Jesus, I don’t want to just be informed by Your Word. I want to be transformed. Forgive me for hearing without obeying. I receive grace, and the power to align to your will and the courage to obey all your command. Amen.”
