Be an Example by Setting a Pattern for Believers (Jan. 31)

Let no one despise or think less of you because of your youth but be an example (pattern) for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity. 1 TIMOTHY 4:1 (AMPC)

This verse is part of a letter written by the Apostle Paul to his young protégé, Timothy, encouraging him not to be discouraged by his youth, but instead to lead by example in various aspects of his life. This verse emphasizes on the importance of living a life that reflects Christian values and standards regardless of age, circumstances and conditions. Our conduct matters. What we do and say either reflects Christ well to the world or misrepresents Him. As believers, we must pay attention to our own character, and we should set an example that point others to God.

In all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, 8 sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you. TITUS 2:7 (NKJV)

Regardless of our stage in life, our goal should be to continue to surrender our lives to the lordship of Christ and to consistently submit ourselves to the Word and workings of the Spirit in order to grow in godly character. We are called to be powerful influence for Christ and to shine brightly for Him and be an example to all believers in a time and season when many youths seem to be falling away from the faith.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. MATTHEW 5:1 (NKJV)

The best way to “let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” is by letting your Christian character, values and priorities to point people to the salvation Christ offers.

Prayer of the Day: Father in the name of Jesus, I ask for the grace to yield to the leading of the Holy Spirit. I receive the spiritual discipline to live as an example (pattern) for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.
