HE BROUGHT ME UP AND SET ME ABOVE

“He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps. Psalm 40:2 (NKJV)

“For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion… He shall set me high upon a rock. And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me.” Psalm 27:5–6 (NKJV)

“He delivers me from my enemies. You also lift me up above those who rise against me.” Psalm 18:48 (NKJV)

“And the LORD will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only and not be beneath.” Deuteronomy 28:13 (NKJV)

“He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the beggar from the ash heap, to set them among princes and make them inherit the throne of glory.”1 Samuel 2:8 (NKJV)

There is a difference between simply coming out of a difficult situation and being lifted into a better position. David said, “He also brought me up out of a horrible pit… and set my feet upon a rock.” God did not only bring David out; He also brought him up. He changed both his condition and his position.

This is one of the beautiful expressions of divine lifting. When God brings you out, He does not intend for you to remain around the same limitations that once held you down. He brings you out so that He can establish you, strengthen you, and move you forward.

The pit represents a place where movement is restricted. The miry clay represents instability—a place where every attempt to move seems difficult. But the rock represents stability, strength, and a new foundation. David’s testimony was that God moved him from instability to establishment.

There are seasons when you may have experienced circumstances that restricted your progress. You tried to move forward, but something seemed to pull you backward. Yet when God’s lifting hand comes upon your life, what held you down loses its ability to determine how far you can go.

Psalm 27:6 says, “And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me.” Notice the words “lifted up above.” God is able to change your position in relation to what once confronted you. The challenge may have appeared above you, but God can strengthen, develop, and position you until you rise above what once intimidated you.

This does not mean that believers will never face challenges. Rather, it means that challenges do not have the authority to permanently determine our level. Through God’s wisdom, strength, grace, and intervention, we can rise beyond circumstances that once appeared impossible to overcome.

First Samuel 2:8 gives us another powerful picture. God raises a person from the dust and lifts them from the ash heap “to set them among princes.” Divine lifting can produce remarkable changes in a person’s experience. God can take someone from obscurity into visibility, from limited opportunities into greater access, and from small responsibilities into greater influence.

But when God lifts us, we must also grow in the capacity to function where He has positioned us. A higher position requires greater wisdom, stronger character, deeper humility, and greater responsibility. Divine lifting should never produce pride; it should produce gratitude, stewardship, and a greater commitment to God’s purpose.

Do not allow your present circumstances to become the measurement of your future. Where you are today is not necessarily where you will remain. God is able to open doors, give wisdom, connect you with the right people, enlarge your capacity, and establish the work of your hands.

Your testimony is not simply, “I came out.” Your testimony is, “He brought me up.” You came out stronger. You came out wiser. You came out with greater capacity. You came out with a testimony. And the God who brought you out has set your feet upon a rock and established your steps.

He brought me up and set me above. What once held me down no longer determines my position. The Lord has established my steps, lifted my head, and moved my life forward.

DAILY APPLICATION

Refuse to define yourself by a previous difficult season. Ask yourself, “What has God developed in me through what I have experienced?” Recognize the wisdom, strength, maturity, and capacity you have gained. Then use what God has developed in you to move forward. Do not keep thinking like someone still in the pit when God has already placed your feet upon the rock.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

Father, thank You for bringing me out and bringing me up. Thank You for lifting my head, establishing my steps, and giving me a firm foundation. Let every limitation that has restricted my progress give way to Your purpose for my life. Increase my wisdom, strengthen my character, enlarge my capacity, and prepare me for every place You are taking me. As You lift me, keep me humble, faithful, and committed to using every opportunity for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
