Every new season of life requires a greater dimension of wisdom, capacity, and favor. What was sufficient for yesterday may not be enough for where God is taking you tomorrow. This is why Luke 2:52 tells us that Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. Increase should be continuous. As responsibilities grow, our capacity to handle them must also grow.

Wisdom is especially important because many of life’s outcomes are connected to the quality of the decisions we make. One wise decision can save years of unnecessary struggle, while one careless decision can create consequences that take years to correct. This is why James tells us that when we lack wisdom, we should ask God. God is interested not only in blessing you, but also in giving you the wisdom to make decisions that preserve and maximize His blessings.

Solomon understood this principle. When God gave him the opportunity to ask for something, he requested wisdom to fulfill his responsibility effectively. God responded by giving him “wisdom and exceedingly great understanding.” Solomon recognized that a greater assignment required greater wisdom. In the same way, we should never enter greater responsibilities relying only on what we already know.

Increasing in stature also means becoming a person of greater capacity. God enlarges our ability to think, lead, manage, communicate, endure, serve, and carry responsibility. Sometimes we pray for enlargement around us when God is first working on enlargement within us. Greater influence requires greater maturity. Greater resources require greater stewardship. Greater opportunities require greater competence.

Joseph’s life also shows us the power of favor. Even when his circumstances were unfavorable, Scripture says that God gave him favor. Favor did not mean that Joseph avoided every difficult season, but it meant that his circumstances could not prevent God’s hand from positioning him. From Potiphar’s house to the prison and eventually to Pharaoh’s palace, the favor of God continued to distinguish him.

This teaches us that favor can operate even before your circumstances change. God can cause you to be recognized in an unlikely place. He can bring your gifts before the right people, cause your work to be appreciated, and position you for opportunities you could not have created by yourself.

However, Joseph possessed more than favor; he also had character, wisdom, discipline, and competence. When the opportunity finally came to stand before Pharaoh, he was prepared. Favor brought him before the king, but wisdom enabled him to provide the solution the nation needed.

This is the balance we must pursue. Wisdom helps us know what to do. Stature gives us the capacity to do it. Favor creates opportunities for what God has placed within us to be recognized and utilized. When these dimensions increase together, we become better prepared for greater impact.

Therefore, continue growing. Do not become comfortable with your present level of knowledge, maturity, or capacity. Ask God for greater wisdom. Develop yourself intentionally. Strengthen your character. Improve your competence. Walk faithfully with God and trust Him to surround your life with favor.

You are increasing in wisdom for better decisions, in stature for greater responsibilities, and in favor for greater opportunities. God is enlarging you within and positioning you for greater impact.

DAILY APPLICATION

Before making important decisions today, ask God specifically for wisdom rather than relying only on your own understanding. Also identify one area where your capacity needs to increase for the responsibilities ahead of you. Commit yourself to learning, preparation, discipline, and personal development. Prepare for the opportunities you are praying for.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

Father, thank You for causing me to grow and increase. Give me wisdom and exceedingly great understanding for every decision and responsibility before me. Enlarge my capacity, strengthen my character, and develop me for greater assignments. Let Your favor distinguish me and cause me to be recognized by the right people for the right opportunities. Give me the wisdom to maximize every door You open and the character to remain faithful when You promote me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
