“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
We naturally want to figure things out. We want to connect the dots. We want reasons, answers, clarity. But God calls us to trust, not to understand. “Lean not on your own understanding.” Why? Because our understanding is limited. God’s wisdom is higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9). He sees the whole picture; we see a single frame. It’s easy to trust God when life is going well. But true faith is tested when nothing makes sense. Trusting God when you do not understand is a form of worship. It says: “God, I don’t get it, but I still believe You are good. I still believe You are in control.” Abraham was told to leave his home, not knowing where he was going (Hebrews 11:8). He obeyed without a map. God is working even when you can’t see it. You may not understand what God is doing, but you can trust who God is.
Romans 8:28: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him…” Even in pain, confusion, and silence—God is still at work. Think of Joseph. Sold by his brothers. Thrown into prison. Forgotten. Yet in the end, he said to them: “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good…” (Genesis 50:20). God doesn’t waste pain. He repurposes it. Just because we don’t see the full picture doesn’t mean there isn’t one. Submit to God’s direction, not your feelings. Proverbs 3:6 says: “In all your ways submit to Him…” Submission means surrender. Not just with your words, but your decisions, your plans, and even your disappointments. Sometimes God says “No” or “Wait” not to punish us—but to protect us.
Sometimes God may hold back answers, directions, or dreams—not to hurt us, but because He knows what we do not. You may be in a season where life feels like a puzzle with missing pieces. But God holds the box top. He sees how all the pieces fit—even the ones that make no sense now. So, what do you do when you don’t understand? You trust. Are you trying to control something God is asking you to surrender? Are you holding back trust because you’re waiting to understand? Today, will you choose to trust—not because you see, but because you believe?
Prayer of the Day: Father in the name of Jesus I ask that you order my steps in Your Word. Let each decision, each move, and each relationship bring me closer to Your will. I surrender my plans for Your purpose. Amen.”
