This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. 1 JOHN 4:17(NIV)
Jesus’ love is characterized by selflessness, sacrifice, and compassion, as seen in his willingness to die on the cross for humanity’s sins. To love like Jesus means we cannot be selective in how we treat people. The bible strongly condemns favoritism based on financial or social status. We are to treat every human being with dignity and respect, remembering that this person is a special creation, designed in the image of God. We must work to rid our hearts of racial prejudice, socio-economic snobbery, and religious superiority. None of that belongs in the life of someone who wants to love like Jesus loves.
We must not equate love with complete acceptance of everything someone does. Loving people as Jesus does is challenging but possible and achievable. The Holy Spirit is the one who empowers us to offer selfless love, helps us forgive even in tough situations, and inspires and encourages us to serve without expecting anything in return.
Jesus told His disciples that the primary way the world would know they were His was by their love for one another
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” JOHN 13:35(NIV)
Loving like Jesus is about prioritizing others, showing compassion, and remaining patient through difficulties. It lays emphasis on actions over words—striving each day to reflect God’s love in how we treat people around us, regardless of who they are. We must take deliberate steps to love like God. Loving like God is not just words but actions that demonstrate kindness, compassion, and understanding.
If we love Jesus, then we will love what He loves, which is people. And as we practice loving like He loved, we become more like Him.
Prayer of the Day: Father in the name of Jesus, I ask and receive wisdom and grace to walk and love like you always do.
